Laboratory Analyst - Microbiology/Chemistry

General Accountability:
This position will be responsible for performing water quality, microbiological and trace metals analysis of environmental samples.

Specific Responsibilities:
 Analyze samples for pH, Conductivity, Solids, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Coliforms, Cyanide and Metals by Atomic Absoprtion according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
 Prepare reagents, calibration and quality control standards, sample dilutions, duplications and spikes.
 Clean and/or prepare labware.
 Related computer use: generating work lists of samples; data entry and data transfers.
 Organize workload to meet turn around times (TATs).
 Maintain a clean and safe work environment; follow ALS Safety Manual and policies.
 Work in a team environment.
 General duties to support lab operations.
 Position is nominally for Monday to Friday day shift coverage, but extended, evening or weekend shifts may be required as needed to serve our customers.
 Additional duties as required by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
 Must be well organized, and able to work independently as well as a part of a team
 Must be capable of working with minimal supervision
 Ability to work in a fast paced environment
 Strong communication skills written and verbal
 Proficient computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel

Required Qualifications:
 Diploma in chemistry or related field
 1-2 years lab experience, with microbiology emphasis

Physical Demands:
 Able to stand or sit for a full shift;
 Able to lift 50 lbs and carry for short distances;
 Able to climb stairs;
 Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
